Wireless garage door alert system
Hi everyone.
I'm new to the Forum, new to electronics, and new to wireless transmissions and receivers, so please accept my apologies if I offend anyone by asking the most simple of questions!
I'm looking to construct some sort of system that will alert me in my house if my up-and-over electrically-operated garage door is open. It needs to be wireless and fully battery operated as the garage is remote from the house and the signal from the transmitter will have to travel up to about 15 metres to the receiver in the house.
What I am thinking of is a tilt switch somehow wired to a transmitter, so that when the garage door is open it sends a message to a receiver (also battery operated) which will then illuminate an LED that I can connect to it.
I'm sure to most of you such a thing is child's play, but for me I need pointing in the right direction, so could anyone offer some form of guidance or suggestions for the type of bits and bobs that I'd need, and how I'm supposed to connect everything, please?
Thanks,
Simple Sid

Its quite a tricky one to design from scratch, I should think you could get some sort of kit.
Maplins might just have an off the peg kit or device, try phoning them.
Must be a kit on eBay but don't know the search words.
I will have a think about it, let us know how you get on, I'm sure others could use a similar kit for lots of things.
Tar&stuff.

Hi, and thanks for the reply.
The only kit I can find is from America, but the receiver unit is mains powered, not battery.
My local Maplins weren't much help, and all they came up with in-store was a search on ebay for me.
I'm keen to mackle something up myself, and I'm sure it's do-able - it's just that I don't know how...yet!
Cheers,
Simple Sid

Hi, I just googled '' electronics remote switch'' and there are loads available, the first one is from bright hub engineering .com, this is battery operated, there are lots of kits and stuff further down the google page and a utube tutorial. I did not go to page 2.

Try an wireless door bell,as it should have the range. You should be able to put a roller switch or something similar across the push button to activate.
