Hardwiring 12v tv into caravan leisure circuit

Post by dilby » Mon Jun 08, 2015 8:14 pm

Hi - Hope this isn't a silly question!

I recently bought a 12v tv for my motorhome; it came with a 12v transformer that you can just plug into a normal 230v home socket. My motorhome has a junction box that runs from the leisure battery (12v) with positive and negative terminals, and lights and some other devices are plugged in there.

Would it be possible to just cut the lead off my transformer plug and wire it into the junction box, as I don't need the transformer part of the plug as it's already 12v? Does that make sense? I'd like to run it from the leisure battery.

Thanks!

I live in a houseboat myself, I have had a number of TV' s . TV' s are all slightly different, some switch off if voltage goes below about 12. X volts... That's not much elbow room. Try it it won't hurt, but a big TV will drop the terminal voltage quickly, and it will switch off.
You can always put the transformer back later, leave enough lead sticking out of the transformer to put it back if need be.

You can run it through a 12v to multiple voltage laptop charger for better results.
