Ceramic Capacitor idenfification

I have a ceramic cap I need to replace and the markings on it are not conventional.

Instead of the normal numbering scheme it has 2096 and below 9851

I can't seem to match this to any known value, does anyone have any idea?

It could be a varistor.
Can you upload more pics of the PCB front and back? What is it for?

9851 may well be a manufacturing date code.

Nothing on the back of it. Not sure what it's purpose is.

It's on the PCB of an instrument cluster for a Vauxhall. The chap in Maplin said he doesn't think its a capacitor at all...

Now that you mention Varistor, a quick google shows this up as a Harris Varistor, although I cannot seem to find out what values it has to select a replacement.

Can you put pics up of both sides of the PCB?
It may be a long shot but have you tried contacting Harris?

Vauxhall what... and what year.
It may be easier to get a new board...
Put ''breaking vauxhall X'', with out the word vauxhall, in an ebay search.

Nuclear power stations are quite good but always use asbestos gloves and safety goggles when changing the rods as they can get quite hot and spit a bit.
