Battery Charger from DC Motor

Post by andrex » Thu Oct 04, 2012 7:43 am

Ive got a 24Vdc motor on my wind turbine and Im trying to use it to charge 2 sealed batteries 12Volt in series. Ive been searching the web for days for a circuit/product to regulate and charge the batteries but cant find anything.

Can any one help?

Presumably it's a permanent magnet motor?

As for circuitry, just stick a (big) diode in series.

But a motor used in reverse in this way isn't going to be particularly efficient. I'd say you'd be lucky to get 12V out of it in a string wind. Put a load on it (like a 24V bulb) and see what happens, take some measurements.

The charger design depends on the specific type of batteries. If (as I suspect) they are gel-cell lead-acid they should be charged in a specific manner and you'll find information on the www.
