I am about to make a rear mudguard (fender) for my motorbike using Carbon fibre.
I would like to have LEDs within the Carbon fibre as tail and indicator lights. I am OK with normal wiring (I re-wired the bike after a full re-build), but I have never done LEDs before. I have read a few posts on wiring them in sequence and using resistors etc. I do not need them to be sequenced, although that would be nice.
My main question is if I can simply lay the LEDs straight into the resin and CF as I lay-up the mould, or would it be best to drill them into the finished mudguard?
I do not know if the heat generated when laying-up the composite and resin would be too much, or if the heat of the bulbs when embedded into composite would be too much (expansion etc). I would like to be able to have the LEDS within the fabrication, as they would not be visible unless switched on. As I say, my concern is that the tail light for instance would be on all the time when riding and maybe the heat generated by the LEDs would be too much.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I only just joined and I'm no expert!
If I was in your position I would take apart an old pushbike light so you don't need to mess about rebuilding the wheel. Once you have the bits you need you can rewire them any colour and length. I would build them in with access so that you can replace any led's that burn out.
