Sensor for Rowing Machine
Sensor for Rowing Machine
Hi All
First time poster. I’m trying to find out what type of sensor this is (see attached). It measure strokes/speed on my rowing machine, but I think that it has failed. I’m wondering if I can replace it, but need to identify what type first. Your help would be appreciated.

Re: Sensor for Rowing Machine
Looking closer, this looks like it was specially made for the rower. Appears to be 2x Reed switches in a housing. So looks like I won’t be able to get an easy replacement
Re: Sensor for Rowing Machine
These pics seem to show one sensor with black and white wires, and another with all black wiring. These could be reed relays, but the pics are not very good.
Reed relays are quite old tech nowadays, but are still available. They work by the proximity of a magnet. If you have a multimeter and can reach the leads to the sensors, try bringing a small rare-earth magnet close and see if the relay opens and closes.
Have you tried getting replacements from the supplier of the rower, or from Ebay? Has the magnet (usually placed on the moving part of the rower) fallen off?
