How can I measure my mains Hz frequency.

Post by nickjaxe » Fri Oct 09, 2009 9:14 pm

Hi guys I have bought myself a multimeter that can measure frequency Hz with the aim of measuring the RPM of a small 2 stroke engine,

I have read that I can do this by taking a reading from the generator output, my problem were would I hook up to,

I use my multimeter normally for very basic checking, resistance checks,DC volts on my battery ie seeing if my alternator is charging to the battery 14.5v I think it is but anyway just basic stuff, but measuring Hz is new to me,

I think house mains is 50/60Hz so if I wanted to check that were would I put my probes.

Nick.
