Single phase AC powertool wiring

Post by monkeyboy » Wed Jan 29, 2014 7:57 pm

Hi' this is possibly a simple thing for most of you electronics whizzes. I'm a carpenter and general fixit type of chap who always tries to repair over buy new. The problem I'm attempting to overcome is a router with variable speed that's playing up. I'll not bore you with too many details but I'm attempting to do away with the speed control circuit so the machine runs at full speed from the start, if someone could furnish me with a simple diagram for how the wiring between the brushes and the field coils all connects up it'd be ace, the field coils are 2 separate windings with 4 ends, obviously 2 carbon brushes and a pair of wires from the switch, the switch has a capacitor connected to it which I guess is to help start the motor turning which is to be left in place.
The speed control has 3 wires, one attatched on it's own to a field coil end and two others that seem to be connected to the brushes. Anyway most of the connections are done just by the way the thing assembles I just need to decipher these 3 from the speed controller, which I can fathom out, once I know how a motor should be wired without a speed controller.
Blast that was a load of scribble, I hope it makes some sense to someone.
Thanks in advance Roger \m/

Not too sure from what you say, but perhaps the windings can be switched to series or paralel to give 2 speeds, hense 3 wires.
The cap is likly to be a supressor to prevent sparking.
