Right so you need big batts, and you can use a meter.

I make that 19/3.16 = 6( near enough ) so if it is linear ( doubt it but near enough) and running on 24V it will draw/push 24/6 = 4A.

That's a big battery. You are looking at a couple of small car/motor bike batteries and a resistor or some other circuit to regulate the voltage and a small car battery charger.

Something like that and a car or similar battery, and 12V charger.
You can get solid state and gel batteries of similar size but they are expensive.
A voltage regulator MOSFET is another possibility but they are difficult to handle because of ESD.

PS I am not sure of the Max voltage output of that it might be over 24V, check first.

A 12V battery will be drawing close on 10A so not too small, how long do you want to run it for? Solar panels are dirt cheap these days because govts across the world including China are subsidising production.

Is this thing supposed to run from a truck or vehicle because if it is it will be OK on 28V...2 x 12V car batts. Do you have an eBay link to where you got it?

Just got the utube bit, I am not going to watch because I am on Vodafone mobile and vidio is £10 per hour or some such.

Now you say the charger is pushing 3.6A ...is the device consuming 3.6 amps or not?

That may be the output of the charger but the device is drawing much less.

I need to know how much power it is using to choose the batts.

If he is running on AA batts, it is not drawing 3.6A.

As far as I can see it has 24V input Max voltage, current (amps) unknown.

Do you want to varify the Max laptop charger out put is 3.6A. Ie that is what it says on the charger.

If you put an ammeter in the power circuit from the laptop you can find out how many amps it is drawing or more like mA, milli amps, can you do that, do you understand how to use an ammeter?
You can work out optimum battery spec from that.

I can give online instructions of how to use an ammeter if you need them.
You need a cheap multi meter to do that. I would suggest eBay, get a digi meter with DC 10A.

if you got a better idea let me know

here is the link for the amp
