Turning Motor

Post by frazzle » Sat Mar 08, 2008 2:38 pm

Hi All

Hope you can help.
My son builds fishing rods and he needs a rod turner.

I can build most parts but it is the motor i am stuck on it needs to rotate slowly about 7rpm or there abouts and be mains supply with or with a tranformer it will need to connect a boss of some sort to hold the rod.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to buy such a motor.

Thanks

A TV Antenna/Satellite dish revolving motor should do the trick?
they have good torque as well as low revs and low voltage. If you can find a scrap one.

but if you have some money have a look here at some new ones, there is an 8rpm one down the list

You could probably adapt an old drill chuck as the rod holding boss? and then with an old hobby drill stand build your own lathe for fishing rods

good luck
