transformer ac output voltage
transformer ac output voltage
hi, im new to electronic and just starting to get to grips with it. I have a problem with my nicd battery charger, the problem is that the transformer inside the unit has stopped working and i need to no the output from the transformer so im able to replace it. The transformer is 230vac, and the output from the pcb is as follows ( 15vdc 1A 15W) MY question is how do i work out the input voltage to the pcb, when i no the voltage in is 230vac & 15vdc 1A 15w OUT. I dont wont to buy the wrong transformer and blow the pcb. ps, charger model number is 486910-15 if that helps, black & decker will no give me any support on this as they dont make it anymore,. thanks...
Re: transformer ac output voltage
For a Ni-Cad charger the transformer output should be slightly more than the DC output. So would estimate the transformer output to be about 18V. To be completely sure you need to to know the regulator input voltage after the rectifier. Are there any marking on the regulator?

Re: transformer ac output voltage
hi all, well got the tranformer up and running, The transformer now has a 20v output to the pcb, im not using this for the time been because my mate just put a piece of hard core wire across were the fuse was, on the secondary output and said it will be ok. im sorry but i dont work like that and switched it off when he went, my question is now what do i ( replace the wire) with to protect the transformer and us from fire, any help will be great, JUST WONT TO BE SAFE....
