IRFZ14 MosFET Help needed.

Post by maddoc666 » Tue Jan 11, 2011 6:45 pm

Hi everyone, i am new to this board and need the help of those who are wiser than me, lol.

I'm trying to get a hold of 9 x IRFZ14 MosFET's in the UK but everywhere i've tried have no stock. :(

Does anyone know where i can purchase these for a good price or perhaps even recommend an equivalent part???

In case anyone is interested, it's needed for a BobLight that i am planning to build for my PC. It's my first project (as in building from scratch) and the design i have has these MosFET's listed so i've no idea if i can use something else if i can't get them.

Link below in case anyone needs more info.

Many thanks in advance.

I will make two assumptions, one you need a logic level MOSFET (switches on and provides its
Rdson rating at 5V) and you are simply using it as a low speed switch to turn on a load.

Key ratings are -

Vdss = 60V
Vgs(th) = 4V (note this FET turns on its Rdson rating at 10V, so really not logic level rated)
Id = 10A
Package = TO220
Theta j-c = 3.5 C/W

So if you go to Fairchild Semi, Vishay, Onn Semi, NXP web sites they have product selectors
that will, after you plug in above, pick parts for you. They also have cross reference links
where you enter a part number and can (usually) get a recommendation. Start by picking
package, then select the other parameters. If you are switching a much lower voltage, like
20V, use 40 V for Vdss, if much less current, like 1 A, pick a lower rating. In case of Vgs(th)
and Theta j-c lower is better for general purpose power switch applications.

Regards, Dana.
