Re: Ceramic Capacitor idenfification

9851 may well be a manufacturing date code.

Re: Switch

Hi,

I suspect it stands for accessory - the terminology used suggests it is intended for automotive use. It won't be connected to ground though - the power and acc terminals will be connected when the switch is one, open when off. The ground connection is needed to power the LED.

Re: How do I get the magazine?

Hi EPE index is an unofficial index for EPE magazine, published by Wimborne Publishing. You can find details for purchasing back-copies on their website, www.epemag.com. Note that the link at the bottom of the program window no longer works as they changed the domain name, I'll update this in the ne...

Re: PCB Design

+1 for Eagle. Another one worth looking at /trying is DesignSpark PCB from RS components (). Its free and supposedly doesn't have any restrictions. I gather it's been developed in conjunction with Number One Systems who produce the excellent Easy-PC, which should bode well. I've not tried it yet but...

Re: LG TV

You should be able to, provided that the SCART socket has the full set of connections. See http://www.electronics2000.co.uk/pin-out/scart.php - you'll need pins 3 (left), 1 (right) and 4 (ground). You may be able to get a ready-made cable or adapter if you prefer, but check this is for audio output,...

Re: relay help please

Given your (now deleted) abusive posting I'm not too willing to help - people post here in their spare time, no-one is paid to do so. If you want the buzzer to sound for a couple of seconds you'll need a timer circuit. You could use a 555 timer in monostable mode, this can control a transistor to dr...

Re: Power supply diode help

My Sony blu-ray player (cheaper model) has a temperature controlled fan, and it hardly ever switches on. Yours may well be the same. It might be worth checking the temperature inside the case after running it for 30 mins or so of playing a disc.

Re: Ohm's Law confusion ...

Indeed, the resistance of the filament is a lot lower when cold than when heated up, hence why light bulbs tend to blow at switch-on.

Re: solenoid valve control

Hi, The valve will be either open or closed - supplying an intermediate voltage won't give you a partially open valve. You'd need to feed pulses to the MOSFET or a relay in the same way as the control board. This could be done with a 555 timer in astable mode (with the pot varying the mark / space r...

Re: PCB manufacture cost

Hi, Do you need this supplied as a single panel with v-grooves, or could they be routed apart by the manufacturer and supplied as 4 individual boards? I've had panels of 4 or 5 prototype boards made by PCB Pool before, they separated them for me - I think there was a 10 euro routing charge on top of...
