Motorcycle Low Fuel Level.

Post by jumpsummo » Tue Jun 01, 2010 8:47 pm

As some may know many motorcycles don't have fuel level transmitters or gauges.

Some do have gauges and/or low level warning lights.

For a low level sensor they use a thermistor that is inside the tank. When fuel is covering the window the thermistor is cooled so there is no low level light.

What I'm looking for is some help to find a spec for thermistor that can be epoxied to the underside of the tank. There is usually a tunnel there and space and no drilling welding is required on the tank.

The output can go to a LED or Lamp to alert the driver.

If you used several of these as various levels a small group of LEDS could give a reasonable information. I. E. if you have 1/2 tank full you know you are are okay for a while.
1/2 green.
1/4 yellow
1/8 Red.

If we can figure out ONE thermistor to ONE light I can figure out the rest.

The tank metal is about 24 gauge thick. About 0.025"
