Postby heliox » Fri Feb 26, 2010 5:06 pm

Hi
I have a chartplotter and heard something rattling about.
I took apart and found the component.
it has split length ways, the wire is still soldered to the pcb. the wire passes right through the component in a U shape and the brown body of it has split in two.
on it is written:

IRC-USA
LOB-J
.05 (omega) 5%
0044
its all brown the brown part is 13mm long 5mm in dia.
here is link to picture http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/9127/p2260057z.jpg

help would be much appreciated.

at a rough guess it could be

a. a current sensing resistor?

b. an air core

or c a fuseable resistor

this company should be able to help you out- this is a typical current sensing resistor
http://gb.mouser.com/ProductDetail/IRC/LOB3R005JLF/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMuIC3ROaEqRYYbVFxTKqLef

that listing is for the UK operation but I think they have a USA operation as well?

Thank you Biffo
I think your right, item a.
Mouser are having a look for me now. its 60 pence and £12 shipping from US.
If you know of a cheaper alternative that would be good.
