PCB fix

Hi folks.
Hoping someone can help. I'm not into electronics so to you it may be daft but I'm looking at fixing a PCB that I've buggered up. Bear in mind I know nothing about repairing but I've had a look at stuff on youtube in relation to what I'm attempting.
Pictures showing both sides are attached. The pcb is no wider than a 5p. I have purchased a magnifying glass with clips on and some conductive silver paint. What baffles me is that the pcb seems to be made out of copper and i thought that the black lines would be the copper wire so my intention was to scrape the surface to have the wire showing and join up the break with the silver paint. Also it looks like there's a connection line right on the edge of both sides but is that normal. It seems too close to the edge to me.
I have scraped at it but the more I do the more confusing it gets. I think I may need a microscope let alone a magnifying glass!
Forgive my ignorance in this subject. Would I be wasting my time trying to fix it?

Thanks.
Andy.
