LED help

Hi folks,
It has been a long time since I did electronics, but I want to make an outside sign for my business, I think using LED's as they are low voltage.
The sign will be lettering and I want to attach the LED;s to the back side of the lettering
Can anyone help me on how to design the laylot of the LED's, ie how to make up the LED boards and power supplies etc etc, or can I but the LED's and circuits already made up.
In you view does LED be best suited for this job
