Running LEDS from 9v

Hi All, I'm new here so please have a little patience with me.
I am one of those strange people who gets involved in making carnival floats and suchlike. I have just inherited several strings of 20 Blue and White Leds which have been ( and still do ) run on 4.5 volt batteries, the ones with the flat metal strip terminals. They run perfectly well but those that use them want them converted to run on 9 volt using PP3s and the very nice little switched battery boxes from Maplin.

Although I am fully aware that perhaps it is not the best idea in the world to run Leds in this way, I am stuck with them for the moment. I have tried using a 15 Ohm 3 watt resistor as suggected by the LedCalc website that I normally use but it doesn't work.
Can anyone out there help me please ?
.

I would expect right around 4 hours of useable battery life with a Pimeta 2 that is powered by a single 9 volt NiMH battery.
Right around 8 hours from a Pimeta with the same battery and a single buffer per channel.
