remote control advice

Can anyone help me or give advice - I have a whirlpool bath which runs off a remote control, however i do not have the remote control. I have seen pictures and this remote control has approximately five settings, light, massage, bubbles etc. I believe the remote control is very difficult to get and alos expensive, so my question is can i modify/make or even buy a remote control which could be used for this pupose. Or do i have any other alternative?
