Delay plug device needed

Hi, All.

I need a basic plug device, either to buy or build, which is shaped like a plug timer, but it's function is that when power is applied, it is "off" for a couple of minutes, then the power gets through.

So you plug the device into a mains socket, and plug a piece of equipment into it. The mains power drops out, powercut, electric goes, etc, when the power resumes, this piece of equipment needs to be held off for a further couple of minutes. It cannot resume at the same time as everything else.

Does anyone know of such a device, and any idea what I could do to build it if not? I don't want to get involved with ICs, I hoped some simple relay could do the job... It's the time part that I don't understand, the time isn't critical, 1 minute, 10 minutes, doesn't matter, it just cannot resume at the same time the rest of the house does.

Thanks for any advice.

Actually, I've found this.

Looks just the business, but I've no idea how I'd build that, still any advice appreciated.

The one you link to runs on 24v DC. UK mains is 230v AC, the same manufacturer makes 230v ones, are you in the UK?
What is it switching? By plug in it means that it pushes into a relay base.
RS, Farnell, CPC etc sell them, they are basically just a delay on timer.

Hi, Paul.

I understand it's 24vdc to operate the relay, the plan was to have a small transformer in the project box too. So mains would come in via a 3 core mains lead, split into two, one would go to the transformer, and the resulting 24vdc output would hit the relay, and the other from the split would go directly to the relay's mains poles.

So power would hit the sockets, get to the project box and go via two routes, one route is to the gate poles in the relay, and wait there. The other would go via the 24vdc transformer and 24v would be applied to the other poles, the relay then activates the timer, after the time has elapsed, the relay opens that gate and lets mains voltage through to the socket, which I can plug my device into.

Does that sound ok?

You mentioned 240v versions, these might eliviate the need for the 24v transformer/rectifier. So I'd just have that as a timed switch, as you said "delay on switch".

Are you based in the UK? What is it for?

Whats it for... what power does it consume etc... hmmm
