Capacitor Failure

Post by Rinson » Sat Nov 17, 2012 9:50 am

Can someone explain me the reasons for the failure or explosion of the capacitor??
Can input voltage dip, be the cause for the explosion of capacitor??

Could be lots of reasons... faulty cap... power surge ... reverse voltage(if it's electrolitic) ... etc ...etc...

It is not because of less voltage... there is likely to be (if its not the cap) a short.

Helpful links capacitor's failure depends on some reason
Several things cause the most failures:

1. The manufacturer used a cheap capacitor or one that is not rated properly for the job.
2. It is in an environment that is too hot.
3. Multiple powerline surges have destroyed it.
4.It is important that the capacitors used on computer motherboards or other devices have Low Equivalent Series Resistance. The most typical failure mode of a capacitor is that the Equivalent Series Resistance has become quite high and therefore it cannot be considered to be a Low Equivalent Series Resistance capacitor anymore.

if you want to calculate capacitor then use those powerful electronic tool. ... ulator.php
after measurements u can easily identify which one best for u(capacitor) if u need more information regarding this issue then feel free ask me. am looking for your reply.
