okay, thank you Paul.
I think as this is all new to me I will start with just adding a switch to a set of fairy lights just to see how that goes. I'll pick up some in the week and try this.
I presume that if i am ignoring the current switch (as it is a cheap little black slide one) i will need to disconnect these wires and solder the switch wires in their place? or could the current wires be cut and extended and then leave the current switch in the on position so the circuit running straight to the new switch?
also the new switch wires seem to be 15cm, if i needed more could I just cut in the middle and ad wire using those little crimp clips to extent or does it not work like that?
