Flashing LED or a 555
Hi clever ones I need some advice please. I am quite new to electronics and want to start off on some basics. I want to make a flashing LED circuit. I have looked at the circuits that use a 555 chip and they look fine but I have noticed in Maplins (can I say that?) that they sell a Red Flashing UB 10mm LED. If I connect that to a power supply will it simply flash? and if not what's it for? Can I blow it if I get the polarity wrong? Thanks in advance.

No point asking maplins because they delete any thing that does not make them look good, if you ask something they change the question or answer... I hate that.
You may as well be talking to their sales team, they tell you their stuff is good and delete any contrary view.
