12v DC motor speed controller/psu query

Post by Gus33 » Sat Nov 28, 2020 5:22 pm

Hello, I'm new to this forum but hope you can help.

I have a DC 12v motor rated at 6A and have been struggling to find a power supply/speed controller for it. It's for a project involving a geared 3d printed part which I hope its strong enough to turn.

The motor has a reduction gear and rotates at 300rpm. I tried to run it on a 14v dc power supply/speed controller that I used to use for hornby but it didn't work. I found that odd as it worked with a slower geared 12v DC motor but I presume it didn't have enough amps.

I am looking for a speed controller/power supply for it that can be attached to mains 240v. I do have some lipo ~12v batteries but I think they would be too many amps as they are for RC planes.

I can solder and do some amateur electronics but would prefer to buy a self contained unit that doesn't have the need for it.. providing its not hideously expensive.

I've searched amazon, alibaba and bang good but can't find the right thing. Please help! Thanks in advance.

I am in the UK.

Gus

Hello

You could try Ebay - they often have out of the usual devices.

Try a battery on the motor first to see if it is up to the job.

A car battery will do the job to test.
